Many Catholics including me appreciate what Pope Francis is doing for the Catholic Church. He certainly appeals to the more moderate voices within the Church, which has endeared him to the liberal media. His message is also attractive to millennials, which is important for the future of the Church. Of course the more conservative Catholics do not agree with some of his stances. Change comes slowly in the Church. It is one reason I respect the institution, though those outside the Church condemn it for the same reason. Trump’s decision to spurn the upcoming Fox debate highlights his true colors and should give any of his supporters pause before the upcoming primaries and caucuses.
His decision to pull out is driven by his disdain for how Megyn Kelly “treated” him in the debates…last August. He thought he was treated unfairly then, and is resurrecting that theme again, despite the fact that he has appeared on Fox 132 times since that debate. Treated unfairly? Yeah right. Poor Donald. This is all about publicity and appealing to those who like his confrontational approach and how he “stands up to the media”. So far, no matter what he says, he gains support: “You go Donald! Right on!” When he does not get his way, he collects his cards and goes home. He is like any other bully. And you want this guy to be the President? If our choice in 2016 is between Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders, an avowed socialist, or even Hillary, this country has sadly gone beyond the point of no return.
